DALTON, GA —The No. 20 Bethel Wildcats lost a heartbreaker at Dalton State Thursday night falling 89-84 in overtime. The Cats fell to 19-6 overall and 13-4 in the SSAC. DSU improved to 14-10 and 9-7. In a game designated as the SSAC Game of the Week the Wildcats saw their winning streak snapped at seven. Dalton took a 5-4 lead in the series.
The Wildcats shot 46 percent, outrebounded DSU 23-8 and hit four three's in the first half to lead 44-28 at the break.
The Roadrunners scored the first 12 points of the second half to cut the Wildcat lead to 44-40. The Cats answered with an 8-2 run to extend the lead back to double digits at 52-42 with 13 minutes left in the game. DSU fought back and tied the game at 69 with four and half minutes remaining. It was nip and tuck the remainder of the game with both teams scoring ten points each as they went to overtime tied at 79. The Roadrunners outscored the Wildcats 10-5 in the overtime.
Bethel finished the game shooting 41 percent hitting 28-of-67 shots. They hit eight three's and were 20-of-27 from the free throw line. Turnovers hurt the Wildcats as they finished the game with 25. DSU shot 45 percent hitting 33-of-73 shots. They hit five three's and were 18-of-27 from the foul line. Bethel had a slight advantage on the boards at 39-37. DSU enjoyed a 30-20 advantage in points in the paint.
Five Bethel players finished in double figures with Isaac Edmondson leading the offensive attack with 16. Jarred Walker had 15 points. Cayden Edmonson finished with 12 points. Chase Nappier and Bradley Walker each scored 10 points. Sean Cranney led DSU with a game high 22 points.
The Cats travel to Pulaski Saturday to face Martin Methodist at 4 p.m.
