MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats play host to the 6th Annual Chick-Fil-A Classic this weekend in Crisp Arena.
The (RV) Wildcats met the No. 13 University of Science & Arts (Oklahoma) Friday. The Drovers used a 30-10 run midway of the second half to pull away and beat Bethel 95-81. The Wildcats had used a 27-5 run in the last ten minutes of the first half to lead at halftime 43-33.
Bethel shot 36 percent from the floor hitting 28-of-77 shots while Science & Arts was 32-of-68 from the field at 47 percent. The Wildcats connected on eight three's while the Drovers hit seven on the night. Bethel was 17-of-22 from the foul line while S&A was 24-of-35 from the line. Bethel won the battle of the boards at 47-34 but committed a season high 25 turnovers.
Cayden Edmonson was one of five Wildcats in double figures with 18 points. Javonte Ellis and Foday Sankaray both finished with 14 points each. Myron McKinney had 12 points while Cameron Ricks had 10 for the Cats.
The Drovers also had five players finish in double digits with Dylan Causwell leading the Drovers with 26 points. He also had a game high ten rebounds.
Coach Jeff Britt said, 'We simply had too many turnovers. Science and Arts is an outstanding team and well deserve of their ranking. Their length bothered us and we just did not protect the basketball. We will learn from playing this type team. We will have to regroup as we face a great team in Southeastern tomorrow."
Southeastern pulled away earlier in the day and beat Cumberland University 94-84.
Saturday the squads flip flop with Cumberland taking on Science & Arts at 4 p.m. with Bethel facing Southeastern at 6 p.m.
The Wildcats are 1-2 on the season. Science & Arts moved to 3-0 on the year.
Cumberland is 3-2 on the early season while it was season opener for the Fire.
Bethel is 84-27 all-time in Crisp. They have a 64-40 mark in SSAC play.
