MCKENZIE, Tenn. – After a home loss to Loyola Thursday the Bethel Wildcats bounced back with an 84-77 upset of No. 22 William Carey Saturday in Crisp Arena. The Cats beat the Crusaders 84-77 moving their record to 12-4 overall and 6-2 in the SSAC. WCU dropped to 11-5 and 7-1.
It was the 13th meeting between the two programs with WCU leading the series 8-5.
The Wildcats shot 45 percent from the floor hitting 28-of-61 shots. They hit seven three's and finished 21-of-35 from the charity stripe. WCU was 24-of-57 from the field at 42 percent. They hit eight three-pointers and were 21-of-35 from the foul line. Both teams pulled down 40 rebounds each. The Crusaders committed 23 turnovers while Bethel had 17.
The Wildcats led 43-29 at the half and never trailed in the game.
Bethel placed five players in double figures with Isaac Edmondson leading the Cats with 18 points. He also pulled down six rebounds and had six assists in the game. Edmondson was 8-of-12 from the foul line. His last made free throw gave him 492 career made free throws which is the most in Wildcat history. Chase Nappier had 16 points. Cayden Edmonson had a double –double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Charles Cobb came off the bench with 11 points.
Adrian Williams led the Crusaders with 15 points.
Coach Jeff Britt commented on the win. "I thought our energy to begin the game was impressive. I am really proud of how we bounced back from Thursday and responded with that energy and effort. Conference games are tough and can be extremely competitive. It is a tough grind and we will have to have great efforts to prevail. We face three tough road games and will have to play well."
Bethel hits the road for three straight games beginning with a visit to Stillman College on January 17. They visit Mobile on January 19 and Blue Mountain January 21. The Lady Cats return to Crisp Arena the 24th to host Faulkner.
