JACKSON, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season Tuesday night falling at Union University 3-0. The Lady Cats fell to 3-1 while Union won for the first time on the season moving to 1-8. The match marked the first time since 2011 the programs had met. It was Bethel's first road match and Union's first home match of the season. The Lady Cats are 1-6 all-time at Union. Union leads the series 12-4.
The Lady Dogs won handily in the first set winning 25-10. Bethel led much of the second set and had their biggest lead at 23-15 but Union rallied and won 26-24. The third set proved to be a marathon with Bethel taking set point at 25-24 and 26-25, but Union answered both times. Union had set point at 27-26, 28-27, and 29-28, but Bethel also answered all three times. The Lady Dogs would eventually win 31-29.
Hannah McGowan and Brianca Mayfield each had 10 kills for Bethel. Katelyn Van Hooser had 18 assists while Brooke Burress contributed with 13 assists. Giulia Zilotti finished with 12 digs.
Bethel remains on the road traveling to Cumberland University Thursday to face the Phoenix at 7 p.m.
