MCKENZIE, Tenn. The Wildcats closed out the Bethel Labor Day Soccer Classic with a 1-0 heartbreaking double overtime loss to (RV) Truett McConnell Monday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium. The Cats fell to 2-2 on the year while the Bears won their third straight and moved to 3-0 on the season.
Both teams battled the heat and each other for 100 minutes and the affair wasn't decided until the Bears won it on a goal by Joao Costa in the second overtime.
Bethel outshot the visitors 13-8 but Truett McConnell had a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Bethel's Marco Taaffe recorded three saves. Bethel had a 5-2 margin in corner kicks.
A bright spot for the Wildcats came earlier in the day as Bethel's Mohungsi was named SSAC Player of the Week.
Bethel returns to action Saturday hosting Lyon at 3:30 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
