Lady Cats Shatter Records Against Welch

MCKENZIE, Tenn. –The Bethel Lady Wildcat soccer squad had no trouble with Welch College Tuesday handily beating the Flames 20 -0. Bethel improved to 6-3 on the season while Welch playing in its inaugural season of competition fell to 0-5. It was the visitors from Gallatin fifth straight road game to open the year.

Janine Dennis scored four first period goals. Elvira Martin knocked in two goals for the Lady Wildcats. Single scores by Giovanna Ledesma, Brittany Bray, Danijela Kolaric, Jodi Butler and Maggie Swift made it 11-0 at the break. Maria Fernada Campos was credited with two assists in the period. Dennis, Kolaric, Bray, Butler, Swift and Katie Kirkland had an assist each.

Bethel had a 29-1 advantage in shots and a 21-1 margin in shots on goal in the first stanza.

Dennis scored five more goals in the second period giving her nine on the day. It also set a new school record for goals in a game. The nine goals are the fourth most ever scored by a player in NAIA history. Her nine goals and three assists for 20 points put her third for most points in an NAIA game.

Other goals in the period by Ledesma, Butler, Campos and Faith Williamson accounted for the 20 goals which is a new single game record for the Lady Wildcats.

Assists in the period were by Bray (2), Campos, Ledesma, Dennis and Chantell Lawson.

Bethel finished with 51 shots and 39 shots on goal. Welch had one shot and one shot on goal.

The 20 goals by the Lady Cats tied them for fifth most ever in an NAIA match.

The Lady Cats begin a three game road stretch Thursday, September 27 at Middle Georgia State. They return home October 6 to host arch -rival Martin Methodist.
