MCKENZIE, Tenn. –The Bethel Wildcats rallied with two late inning runs to gain a split in their doubleheader versus Martin Methodist Saturday afternoon in McKenzie. It was especially a sweet win for Bethel's eight seniors who were honored between the games. The Wildcats won the game 5-4 after falling 9-1 in game one.
Bethel's Lucas Riddick scored on a Martin Methodist throwing error to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth. Jackson Hollinshed followed with what proved to be the game winner with an RBI single. Riddick had driven in two runs in the second and Austin Brenner had driven in a run in the fifth for Bethel's other runs. John Michael Spoon was the winner with Axle Metzger picking up the save. Collin Lillie was charged with the loss. Martin Methodist outhit Bethel 11-10.
The Wildcats managed only two hits in game one. MMC outhit Bethel 8-2. Colby Poston had the only RBI for the Cats. Brady Jones took the loss while Ben Hargrove had the complete game for the Hawks and was the winner.
Jackson Hollinshed, Kendall Adkisson, John Michael Spoon, Axle Metzger, Colby Poston, Brady Jones, Lee McBunch and Steven White were the seniors honored.
The Wildcats finished the day 20-21 overall and 10-11 in the SSAC. MMC is 15-23 and 9-12.
The Wildcats close out the regular season with a three game series at Blue Mountain Thursday and Friday. The two rivals meet Thursday for a doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. and then paly a single game Friday at 7:30 p.m.
