Bat Cats Outlast Cumberland University-Prepare for Big Weekend

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – In a wild affair at the Kahlden Complex Wednesday afternoon the Bethel Wildcats outlasted the visiting Phoenix of Cumberland University. Bethel scored in every inning and won 10-8.

Eleven pitchers appeared in the game with the Wildcats using seven different hurlers. Cumberland outhit the Wildcats 14-8 but the Wildcats arms were able to pitch out of several jams as the Phoenix stranded 12 runners. Both teams struggled in the field combining for seven errors.

Lucas Riddick drove in two runs. He led off the game with a sizzling home run to right. Sidney Rickman also drove in two runs. Colby Poston, Logan Talley and Lee McBunch had single RBI's in the game.

Ryan Robertson picked up the win. Axle Metzger was able to close out a late inning threat by Cumberland and was credited with the save. Jackson White was charged with the Phoenix loss.

Bethel improved to 18-20 while Cumberland fell to 28-15.

The Wildcats host Martin Methodist Friday and Saturday in SSAC play. There will be a ribbon cutting Friday night to officially recognize Bethel's newly lighted baseball and softball fields as Kahlden Complex. The ribbon cutting will take place at 5:45 p.m. just before the game against arch rival Martin Methodist which will begin at 6 p.m.

The two squads play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. It will be Senior Day with ceremonies taking place between the games. Jackson Hollinshed, Kendall Adkisson, John Michael Spoon, Axle Metzger, Colby Poston, Brady Jones, Lee McBunch and Steven White will be honored.
