WALNUT RIDGE, AR- The Bethel Wildcats traveled to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas to meet the Williams Baptist Eagles Tuesday. It a strange twist of events the Cats split the doubleheader against the Eagles. Bethel took game one 5-1 but lost the nightcap 7-6. In the end it was the night which was Bethel's undoing.
Bethel had scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-7 lead. With one out and a runner on in the bottom of the inning the umpires called the game due to darkness. With that occurring the game reverted back to the score after the sixth inning deeming WBC the winner 7-6.
Randy Guevarez homered in the game. Lee McBunch homered and drove in two. Colby Poston drove in two Bethel runners while Logan Talley had an RBI for the Wildcats. The Wildcats had nine hits in the game. Brandon Degnegaard was the hard luck loser.
In game one the Wildcats handed WBC their first home loss of the season. Bethel scored single runs in the first, second and sixth innings. They added two in the seventh to salt the game away. Braden Lott had a homer and RBI. Jack Surber and Talley drove in a run each.
Both squads had eight hits in the game. Austin Elrod picked up the win for the Wildcats.
Bethel moved to 6-9 on the season while Williams Baptist finished the day at 7-11.
The Wildcats return home for a three game conference set hosting Brewton-Parker Friday and Saturday at Bethel's Kahlden Complex. The teams play a doubleheader Friday at noon and a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.
