MCKENZIE, Tenn. –Going into Saturday's first game of their doubleheader against Bethel, William Carey had scored 104 runs and pounded out 138 hits in their first 18 games of the season. Those numbers make the effort of Bethel's Brady Jones even more impressive as the right-handed senior from Manilla, Arkansas shut down the Crusaders firing a no-hitter and striking out 11 in Bethel's 4-0 win.
Bethel has had their share of players drafted through the years. All of those except one have been pitchers. Pitching Coach Nick Thompson who pitched three years in the Chicago Cubs organization has been instrumental in the program having five pitchers move to the professional level. His ability to teach and push his staff is paying dividends again as the performance of Jones would indicate.
Coach Rusty Thompson commented, "Brady was dominating today. In 2008 Jon Patterson threw a perfect against Fisk but this effort today is by far the best performance we've had. Brady has come a long way with his command and composure and it says a lot about his work ethic and Nick's ability to teach and get the most out of individuals and the staff as a whole."
The Cats travel to William Baptist Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. They return home Friday for a three game weekend conference series against Brewton-Parker. Jones will have his next start in that series.
