COCHRAN, Ga. – After sweeping Brewton- Parker Friday in Mount Vernon, the Bethel Lady Wildcats continued their Georgia road trip traveling to Cochran to meet the Knights of Middle Georgia State in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader.
The Knights took game one winning 11-3. They scored five runs in the first inning, two in the second and four in the third to salt the game away quickly.
Iesha Kizer homered in the fourth inning for Bethel. Maddie Cochran singled in the fifth driving in Casey Wade and Emmi Thurmond.
Wade was charged with the loss. MGS's Harley Roberts picked up the Knight victory.
In game two the Lady Wildcats led 4-1 in the fifth but the Knights scored two in the bottom of the inning and two in the sixth to win 5-4.
Skyla Stanfield singled in the first driving in Lexee Miller to give Bethel a 1-0 lead. MGS tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Stanfield and Wade drove in runs in the third inning to give the Cats a 3-1 margin. Kizer hit her second home run of the day in the top of the fifth to give Bethel a 4-1 lead.
The Knights won however with their rally in the last innings. Roberts was the winner in relief while Cochran suffered the Bethel loss. Bethel stranded nine runs in the game.
Bethel dropped to 9-17 overall and 3-5 in the SSAC. MGS improved to 8-14 and 4-8.
Bethel travels to Blue Mountain Tuesday to battle the Toppers in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
