MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats enjoyed their biggest win of the season in game one of their softball doubleheader at Faulkner Friday afternoon beating the No. 23 Lady Eagles 2-0. The win by Bethel snapped a 13 game winning streak by Faulkner.
Casey Wade was brilliant holding the ranked Eagles to just two hits in seven innings. She had seven strikeouts. Wade also contributed with her bat driving in Iesha Kizer. Kizer had Bethel's only other two hits and drove in Dominque Todd for the only other run in the game. Bethel handed Faulkner ace Emma Cornell her first loss of the season.
Game two was another pitching duel. Bethel outhit Faulkner 6-4 but left 12 runners on base. That proved to be costly as the Eagles eked out a 2-0 win to gain the split. Billie Douglas was the hard luck loser while Faulkner's Caitlin Perry picked up the victory.
Kizer was on base three times with two hits and a walk. Maddie Cochran also had two hits while Emmi Thurmond and Wade each had a hit in the game.
Bethel moved to 7-13 and 1-1 in the SSAC. Faulkner is 22-3 and 7-1.
Bethel travels to Martin Methodist Wednesday to meet the RedHawks in a SSAC doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
