MCKENZIE, Tenn. –Before a huge crowd at Wildcat Park at the Kahlden Complex the Bethel Wildcats rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat the No. 26 Cumberland University Phoenix Wednesday 6-2. Bethel moved to 10-9 while the Phoenix fell to 16-6.
The boisterous crowd sparked by the presence of the Bethel football team and staff saw the Cats score four runs in the bottom of the fifth and then add two more insurance runs in the sixth to win their fourth straight. The Wildcats have won six of their last seven.
Kendall Adkisson, who led off the fifth with a double scored on a ground out by Jacob Foster later in the inning to make it 2-1. The biggest blow of the game came when Jack Surber blasted a three-run homer later in the inning to give the Cats a 4-2 lead.
Bethel's Jackson Hollinshed and Austin Brenner drove in runs in the sixth to give the Cats a 6-2 margin.
Bethel's Alex Valcarcel picked up the win. Axle Metzger was credited with the save. Monty Stevens suffered the Cumberland loss.
Bethel travels to Middle Georgia State Friday and Saturday. The squads play a SSAC doubleheader Friday beginning at 3 p.m. CST. They play a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.
