Pitching and Timely Hitting Leads Cats to Weekend Sweep of Barons

MCKENZIE, Tenn. –The Bethel Wildcats completed a three game sweep of the visiting Brewton-Parker Barons Saturday with a 4-0 win at Wildcat Park in the Kahlden Complex. The Wildcats had won Friday games 5-0 and 2-1.

Bethel took a 1-0 lead on a Jack Surber RBI double in the fourth. The Cats scored three runs in the fifth. Austin Brenner scored on a squeeze but by Jacob Foster. Surber drove in another run with an RBI single. Colby Poston also had a RBI single in the inning.

Bethel's Bretton Hazlewood was superb going seven innings allowing just one hit. John Michael Spoon pitched two innings of hitless ball. The Wildcat pitching staff allowed just one run and 10 hits in the three game set. BPU managed just 10 hits over the weekend.

Bethel evened their overall record to 9-9 overall and 4 -2 in the SSAC. BPU left McKenzie with a 7-20 and 0-6 record. The Wildcats are 8-6 at home on the season while the Barons are 1-14 on the road.

The Wildcats remain at home hosting Cumberland University at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
