MOBILE, Ala. –The Bethel Wildcats staged a huge comeback erasing a double digit deficit in the second half at Mobile to tie the Rams at 68 all but Mobile scored the last five points to win 73-68.
The Wildcats trailed 41-31 at the half. Mobile maintained the lead and led 63-50 with eight minutes left. Bethel outscored the Rams 18-5 over the next seven minutes and tied the game at 68 on a basket by Charles Cobb with 37 seconds left. Mobile hit five free throws to secure the victory.
Bethel was 22-of-62 from the field at 35 percent. They were 4-of-18 from three-point land and struggled from the free throw line at 20-of-32. They out rebounded Mobile 38-32. Isaac Edmondson led the Wildcats with 18 points. Bradley Walker had 11 while Cayden Edmonson followed with 10 points.
Mobile shot a blistering 65 percent connecting on 26-of-40 attempts from the floor. They hit four threes and were 17-of – 28 from the free throw line. They committed 22 turnovers in the contest. Darius Curry led the Rams with 24 points.
Bethel fell to 14-11 overall and 7-6 in the SSAC. Mobile snapped a five game losing streak and improved to 9-15 and 4-9.
It was the 10th meeting in the series with Bethel falling to 1-3 in Mobile. They are 6-0 in McKenzie.
Coach Jeff Britt commented, "We dug our self a hole but battled back and tied the game. We had a chance to win and I am proud of how we fought back. We missed too many free throws and it hurt us.
The Wildcats remain on the road traveling to New Orleans to meet Loyola Saturday at 4 p.m.
