Softball Splits Doubleheader in Dramatic Fashion

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats had dropped their first five games entering the second game of their doubleheader Sunday afternoon against Lindenwood-Belleville but that losing streak came to an sudden halt as Bethel junior Iesha Kizer clubbed a walk off game winning home run to give the Lady Cats a thrilling 9-8 victory at Wildcat Field. It was a victory new Coach John Weeks will remember.

The Lynx had captured an 8-2 win in game one. Bethel improved to 1-5 on the season while Lindenwood-Belleville fell to 3-1.

Emmi Thurmond drove in a run in game one. Casey Wade suffered the loss.

Kizer, a junior from Lexington, Tennessee had four hits in four at bats in game two. She hit three home runs and had a double. She scored five runs and drove in five runs in the dramatic win. She had two hits and drove in a run in game one giving her five hits, five runs scored and six RBI's on the day.

As a result of her great day Kizer was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Billie Douglas picked up the win.

Coach Weeks commented on the games. "We are pleased to get that first win. Iesha had a spectacular day. We gave up a nice lead in game two but had the poise to fight back and win. We are getting better. Our competition has been tough but we feel good in the direction we are taking. There are a lot of games in a long season and our young ladies are excited about the year."

The Lady Wildcats host Trevecca-Nazarene in a doubleheader Tuesday at Wildcat Field with action beginning at 2 p.m.
