MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats returned home after two conference road games to host the Mississippi College for Women Owls Thursday night at Crisp Arena. It was the first meeting ever between the two programs.
The Wildcats scored a season high 107 points in their 107- 60 rout of the Owls. Bethel moved to 6-3 on the season. The Owls fell to 1-7.
The Wildcats scored the first 19 points of the game and held MUW scoreless for the first eight minutes of the game. Bethel led 46-31 at halftime and built the lead steadily throughout the second half.
The Cats shot 49 percent from the floor hitting 40-of-81 attempts. Bethel hit 13 three-point attempts and had a season high 63 rebounds out rebounding the visitors from Columbus 63-34. MUW shot 33 percent and hit just 4-of-24 three -point attempts.
Tyrus Robinson led Bethel with a career high 21 points connecting on seven three-point attempts. Isaac Edmondson had 20 points and eight rebounds. Cayden Edmonson and Chase Nappier each had 14 points. Foday Sankaray and Noah Chatman each followed with 10 points. Edmonson had the double-double grabbing 10 rebounds.
Tavonta Jones led MUW with 23 points.
Bethel had 45-15 advantage in points off the bench. The Wildcats had a 30-9 margin in second chance points. The Cats grabbed 38 defensive rebounds in the win.
Coach Jeff Britt was pleased with the victory. "We were able to take control early and that was a big key. We did not allow them to get comfortable and we kept the pressure on them throughout the night. Controlling the glass was big and our bench was great tonight. MUW is scrappy and played hard and that is a credit to them."
The Wildcats are back in action Saturday traveling to Gallatin, Tennessee to meet the Welch Flames. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
