MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Bethel Wildcats opened SSAC action Thursday night in Montgomery falling to the Faulkner Eagles 93-73. The Wildcats dropped to 4-3 while Faulkner remained unbeaten at 7-0.
It was the ninth meeting between the two programs which Faulkner now leads 5-4.
Bethel outscored Faulkner 45-42 in the second half but it was not enough to overcome a 51-28 deficit at halftime.
Faulkner shot 50 percent hitting 28-of-55 attempts from the field. They hit eight three-pointers while Bethel hit seven on the night. The Wildcats shot 40 percent hitting 27-of-66 shots from the floor. Faulkner hit 29-of-40 free throw tries while Bethel was 12-of-19 from the charity line. Bethel had a 34-33 rebound margin but committed 22 turnovers.
Noah Chatman and Jarred Walker led Bethel with 12 points each. Freshman Matt McMillan had a career high 11 points. Rene Scott led the Eagles with 19 points.
Bethel remains on the road traveling to Middle Georgia State Saturday for a 1 p.m. CST tip-off. It will be the seventh meeting between the two programs. The series is tied at three each. Bethel is 2-2 in Cochran.
