MT. VERNON, Ga. –The Bethel Wildcats extended their winning streak to three straight with a 90-70 win at Brewton-Parker Saturday afternoon. The Cats upped their record to 12-8 overall and 5-3 in the SSAC. BPU fell to 3-17 and 2-7.
Bethel streaked out to an early lead and led at halftime 38-21. The Wildcats continue to be undefeated when leading at the break at 10-0 on the season.
The Wildcats shot 46 percent from the floor hitting 27-of-58 shots. They hit six three-pointers on 18 attempts. The Wildcats were able to get to the foul line 42 times and hit 30 attempts for 71 percent. Bethel outrebounded the Barons 45-43.
The Barons struggled from the field at 28 percent hitting just 19-of-67 shots from the floor. BPU was 8-of-31 from the three-point arc. They were 24-of-34 from the free throw line.
Bethel's bench was a factor with a 32-17 margin. The Wildcats had a 22-14 advantage in points off turnovers. Bethel had 18 turnovers while BPU had 17 in the game.
Isaac Edmondson led all scorers with 25 points. It was the 15th time on the season Edmondson led the Wildcats in scoring in a game. He moved to 20th on Bethel's all-time career scoring list with 1, 202 points. He has recently moved past several former Bethel greats in Jarvis Palmer, Mike Quertermous and Jerry Gross.
Charles Cobb scored 16 points. Noah Chatman had a game high 11 rebounds. Dimychael Ross led the Barons with 21 points.
Coach Jeff Britt thought his team showed poise and character in the win. "We showed a tremendous amount of poise on the road. We worked hard to build a nice lead and that proved to be the difference. Home teams play well at home and we knew they would make a good run and they did. Our kids played through that despite some tough calls you sometime get on the road as well."
The Wildcats return to action Thursday night traveling to Dalton, Georgia to face Dalton State. DSU beat Bethel 95-91 on December 18 in Crisp Arena.
