DECATUR, Ala. – Bethel's Casey Wade dropped to her knees after striking out the last batter of the game preserving a one lead and giving her Lady Wildcat squad a 4-3 win over Martin Methodist in the SSAC Championships in Decatur, Alabama Thursday morning. The victory moves Bethel into the winner's bracket to play No. 1 seeded and No. 2 nationally ranked Brenau at 4 p.m. today.
Kayla Guthrie scored on a MMC error in the first. The lead was short-lived as Lady Hawk Raegan Hannah tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a solo homer.
Martin Methodist took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on a Taylor Mize RBI single.
Marissa Davis scored on a MMC error which tied the game in the sixth. Wade followed with a single driving in a run to give Bethel a 3-2 advantage. Martin Methodist scored a run on a Bethel error in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at three.
Caylee Crews drove in what proved to be the game winner driving in Guthrie with an RBI single in the top of the seventh.
Mady Kate Gantt, Alex Turner and Crews led the Bethel nine-hit attack with two hits each.
Wade went the distance scattering seven hits to pick up the win. Baylee Mellott was charged with the loss. Bethel moved to 25-24 while MMC dropped to 18-28.
Bethel lost a twin-bill at Brenau (47-5) March 24th losing 3-2 and 6-4.
