Lady Wildcats Split Doubleheader with Martin Methodist

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats split their twin bill with Martin Methodist Monday afternoon winning game one 8-6 and losing game two 10-9.

In game one the Lady Cats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Bailey Moore had an RBI single while Bethel scored another run on a Martin Methodist error. The Lady Hawks committed two errors in the inning.

The Lady Wildcats struck again in the third scoring three runs. Caylee Crews, Iesha Kizer and Dallas Weatherly each drove in Bethel runs.

With her squad trailing 5-1 Lady RedHawk Shelbi Byler hit a homer in the fourth to make it 5-1. The Lady Hawks pushed another run across in the fifth to make it 5-2.

The Lady Wildcats scored a run on a Martin Methodist error in the sixth to increase their lead to 6-2.

Martin Methodist loaded the bases in the seventh and Byler struck again with a two -out grand slam to tie the game at six. Casey Wade was able to get the third out and get Bethel out of the inning.

Wade did more in the bottom of the seventh slugging a two-run homer to give Bethel the 8-6 victory. She picked up the win while Sydney Watson suffered the loss.

Martin Methodist outhit Bethel 12-10 but committed three errors in the game.

Game two was a slugfest as Bethel outhit Martin Methodist 19-14 but in the end the Lady Hawks were able to hold for the 10-9 victory.

Alex Turner drove in a run in the first but Martin Methodist scored seven runs in the second to grab the 7-1 lead. Kayla Guthrie, Mady Kate Gantt and Turner drove in runs in the second to cut the deficit to 7-4.

The Lady Hawks answered with two runs in the third to lead 9-4. Ciara Aragon drove in a run in the third to make it 9-5. Bethel also scored a run on a Hawk error.

Aragon and Guthrie had RBI's in the fourth as the Lady Cats pulled to within 9-8.

MMC scored a run in the fifth and it proved to be a big one. Gantt drove in a run in the bottom of the sixth but it wasn't enough as the Hawks held on for the 10-9 win and the split. Casey Wade suffered the loss. Hannah Raegan and Byler each drove in seven runs for Martin Methodist in the twin bill.

Bethel finished the day 23-23 and 6-18 in the SSAC. MMC is 18-27 and 9-13.

The Lady Wildcats close out their regular season Tuesday hosting Blue Mountain at 2 p.m. Senior Day ceremonies will take place between the games.
