MCKENZIE, Tenn. –The Bethel Wildcats opened SSAC play splitting a doubleheader with the Middle Georgia State Knights Friday afternoon at Wildcat Park in McKenzie. Bethel came from behind to win game one 5-4. The Knights took game two 11-4.
Trailing 4-0 in game one the Wildcats scored five runs in the third inning and it proved to be all they needed to win. Jack Surber drove in two runs in the inning. He was joined by Lucas Riddick, Colin Roberts and Kendall Adkisson who drove in single runs in the frame. Brady Jones picked up the win for the Wildcats.
Game two saw the Knights jump out to a 7-0 lead after three innings and it proved to be too much for the Wildcats to overcome. Bethel scored four late inning runs but came up well short of what they needed for the sweep. Colby Poston slugged a two-run homer and drove in three runs. Adkisson drove in the other run for the Wildcats who finished the day at 10-7 overall and 1-1 in the league. MGS is 16-6 and 1-1.
The two teams play a single game beginning at noon Saturday.
