MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats used a three-run sixth inning to beat the Cumberland Phoenix 4-2 Wednesday afternoon at Wildcat Park in McKenzie. It was the third straight win for the Wildcats who pushed their record to 3-2 on the season. Cumberland fell to 1-3 on the year.
Both teams scored a single run in the first inning. After a lead-off stand-up triple by Christian Padin Bethel's Colin Roberts drove in the tying run with a two-out single.
After Cumberland scored a run in the fourth Bethel scored again after a Padin triple and another Roberts RBI single. Later in the inning Gabriel Matias drove in two runs with a two-out single to give the Wildcats a 4-2 cushion.
The Wildcats used seven pitchers in the nine-inning affair. Steven White (2-0) picked up the win while Axle Metzger was credited with the save. He pitched two hitless innings for the Wildcats. Curtis Hoppe pitched well for the Phoenix but suffered the loss.
Bethel outhit the visitors from Lebanon 9-5.
The Bat Cats travel to Lake Point, Georgia this weekend for two games. They return home February 17 to host Olivet Nazarene.
