Home Openers for Lady Cats Prove to be Fruitful

MCKENZIE, Tenn. –Outstanding pitching and hot bats proved to be the factors in Bethel's softball doubleheader sweep of Crowley's Ridge Thursday afternoon at Wildcat Field in McKenzie.

Winning pitcher Brooke Baucum allowed only two hits through four innings in the five inning opener as Bethel won 12-0. Billie Douglas allowed two hits but no runs in one inning of action. Emmi Thurmond slugged a home run and drove in three runs. Alex Turner had three RBI's. Kayla Guthrie had three hits and drove in a run. Mady Kate Gantt, Iesha Kizer and Caylee Crews also drove in single runs.

The Lady Wildcats scored two runs in the first, five runs in the second and put the game away with a five run fourth. Bethel scored their 12 runs on 12 hits. The Lady Pioneers committed five errors in the game.

Game two went the full seven innings with Bethel winning 7-1. Bethel scored three runs in the first and single runs in the third and fourth. The Lady Wildcats added two more runs in the sixth.

Winning pitcher Bailey Moore drove in two runs. Gantt had another big game driving in two Lady Wildcats. Madisen Adkins and Keely Jordan joined the offensive attack driving home single runs. Moore pitched four innings allowing no hits. Emilee Lewis was effective pitching the last three innings for the Lady Wildcats.

Bethel improved to 4-2 on the season while Crowley's Ridge fell to 0-4.

Bethel returns to action Saturday hosting Missouri Baptist in a twin-bill beginning at 1 p.m.
