PIKEVILLE, KY –The Bethel Wildcats opened their 2017-18 basketball season this weekend making the long trek to Pikeville, Kentucky to play in the Appalachian Wireless Classic. The event is being held in the East Kentucky Exposition Center.
The Cats jumped out to a big first half lead and were never tested in their opener against Mid-Atlantic Christian Friday night winning handily 96-47. Bethel led 50-18 at the break.
Fifteen different players scored in the Bethel onslaught. Isaac Edmondson Led the Wildcats with 20 points. Newcomer Bradley Walker had a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.
The Wildcats shot 42 percent hitting 36-of-84 attempts from the floor. Bethel had a commanding rebound advantage at 58-37. They held Mid-Atlantic Christian to 31 percent from the floor. Bethel attempted 38 more shots from the field than MAC. Another huge factor was Bethel's defense as they forced MAC into 37 turnovers.
The Wildcats face Ohio State –Mansfield Saturday at 3 p.m.
