Bethel University Vice President of Athletics Derek Horne and Head Men's Soccer Coach Malang (JJ) Jarju have announced the hiring of Avery Flener as the newest assistant coach for the Wildcats men's soccer program.
Flener joins the Bethel coaching staff after gaining valuable coaching experience with Sky Soccer and Russellville High School, where he played an active role in leading training sessions, assisting in player development, and organizing both group and individual instruction. His passion for teaching the game and developing student-athletes has helped prepare him for the next step in his coaching career.
"We're excited to welcome Avery to the Bethel Soccer family," said Coach JJ. "He brings a tremendous work ethic, a strong soccer background, and a genuine passion for helping players improve both on and off the field. Avery understands what it takes to compete at a high level, and we believe he'll be a tremendous asset to our program."
A native of Russellville, Kentucky, Flener enjoyed an outstanding collegiate playing career at Freed-Hardeman University. As a forward and midfielder, he appeared in four seasons for the Lions and finished fifth in program history with 27 career goals while adding eight assists.
Prior to his collegiate career, Flener was one of Kentucky's most decorated high school players. He was named the All-Region Player of the Year at Russellville High School and concluded his prep career ranked seventh in Kentucky state history with 137 career goals. He also captured a club national championship while competing with TUSC.

Flener earned his bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Freed-Hardeman University, providing him with a strong foundation in athletic performance, player development, and sports science.
The Wildcats will open the 2026 season looking to build on the program's recent success, and the addition of Flener strengthens a coaching staff committed to competing for Mid-South Conference championships and national recognition.
