Wildcats Close Out Jim Reid Classic at 2–0 With Dominant Win Over WVU Tech
GEORGETOWN, Ky. — The Bethel Wildcats capped off a perfect weekend at the Jim Reid Classic, rolling past WVU Tech 74–52 on Saturday afternoon inside the Davis Reid Alumni Gym. Behind balanced scoring, a 36-point effort from the bench, and a commanding presence in the paint, Bethel improved to 4–1 on the season and secured a 2–0 sweep in the classic.
From the opening tip, Bethel showed little fatigue from Friday's victory, opening the game with crisp ball movement, physical rebounding, and highly efficient shooting. The Wildcats built a 31–23 halftime lead, then erupted for 43 points in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Nunnally Perfect from the Field
One of the most impressive performances of the afternoon came from Brayden Nunnally, who delivered a flawless shooting day. Nunnally went 6-for-6 from the floor, including 4-for-4 from deep, finishing with 16 points and five rebounds in 35 high-energy minutes. Every time Tech tried to chip away, Nunnally answered with a timely bucket.
Starr Shines Off the Bench
Bethel's depth set the tone. David Starr came off the bench and immediately provided a spark, pouring in 18 points, grabbing seven rebounds, and dishing out four assists. His ability to attack the rim and finish through contact was a difference-maker, especially during Bethel's decisive second-half run.
Chiemeka Okereke also delivered strong minutes, adding seven points and six boards while helping Bethel win the physical battles inside.
Turner and Hughes Steady the Starting Unit
Veteran forward Ethan Turner added nine points and five rebounds, while Chauncey Hughes III contributed eight points and three steals to fuel Bethel's defensive pressure. Hughes' activity on the perimeter helped hold WVU Tech to just 12.5% from three and only 34.6% shooting overall.
Dominating the Interior
Bethel controlled the glass with a 47–43 rebounding edge and overwhelmed WVU Tech in paint production, winning points in the paint 30–24 and piling up 25 second-chance points thanks to 20 offensive rebounds. Their physicality wore down Tech as the game progressed.
Wildcat Defense Stifles Tech
WVU Tech's offense struggled to gain traction, especially early. Bethel forced 16 turnovers and turned them into 13 points, while holding Tech's shooters to a cold 2-for-16 from beyond the arc. Brandon Moore led WVU Tech with 14 points, but the Wildcats never allowed him to find rhythm in the halfcourt.
Balanced Attack Finishes the Weekend Strong
In total, 12 Wildcats reached the floor and 11 scored, showcasing the team's depth and cohesion. Bethel shot nearly 40% from the field and knocked down six threes—four of them from Nunnally—as the Wildcats steadily pulled away.
With the win, Bethel closes the Jim Reid Classic at 2–0, building momentum as they return home with a growing sense of identity: deep, defensive-minded, and dangerous in transition and the paint.
The Cats will host the Centennial Bank Classic along with Georgetown, Florida College, and LSU Alexandra. Action is on Friday and Saturday in Crisp Arena.
