Cats Drop Doubleheader at UT Southern

PULASKI, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats traveled to Pulaski to face the UT Southern Firehawks in doubleheader action for the second day in a row Saturday. The teams split a doubleheader Friday in McKenzie.

UTS swept the Cats Saturday, winning 7-6 and 9-3.

The first game was a back-and-forth affair. A big third inning by both teams highlighted the early action. UTS took a 1-0 lead in the first. Bethel's Adriel Vega slugged a grand slam in the top of the third to give the Cats a 4-1 lead. UTS answered, however, with five runs in the bottom of the frame.

The Firehawks added an insurance run in the fourth. The Cats fought back with a two run fifth but fell short falling 7-6.

Zayden McCaslin and Evan Cardwell accounted for the other runs driven in for the Wildcats. Juan Diego Ramos and Vega both had doubles in the game.

The Firehawks outhit the Wildcats 8-6. Matt Ray suffered the Wildcat loss.

In game two, Tennessee Southern pulled away late to secure a 9–3 victory and complete the series sweep at home.

The Hawks scored a single run in the third and six runs in the fourth. They added   single tallies in the fifth and sixth.

Bethel had an RBI from Ramos in the sixth and a two run RBI homer from Tyler Webb in the seventh.

UTS out hit the Wildcats 9-6. Alex Sterling was charged with the loss.

Bethel dropped to 1-3 while UTS improved to 3-1.

The Wildcats return to action Friday and Saturday hosting Olivet Nazarene.
