Bat Cats Take Twin Bill from Oakland City
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats played host to the Oakland City Mighty Oaks Saturday at Wildcat Park in McKenzie. The Cats swept the Oaks 2-1 and 2-0.
In game one the Oaks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. The Bat Cats answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Jared Hall had an RBI single which was followed by an RBI single by Jack Beck.
Those runs would be the only runs scored by either team.
Along with the RBI, Beck made a spectacular diving catch in the fifth saving a run.
Oakland City outhit the Wildcats 8-5.
Lucas Smith went five innings and picked up the victory. Tristian Seputis pitched the seventh inning and was credited with the save.
Oakland City stranded nine runners while the Wildcats left seven runners on base.
The Cats took game two, winning 2-0.
Cade Pilkinton homered in the second to put the Wildcats up 1-0. Adriel Vega accounted for the only other run of the game with an RBI single in the fifth inning. Bethel outhit Oak City 4-3.
Walker Ward was the winner for the Cats. Klayton Wright had the save.
Coach Rusty Thompson was pleased with the wins. "We were solid in both games. I thought Jack Beck's diving catch in game one probably saved the game for us. Our pitching was solid in both games. These are two good wins as Oakland City has a really good squad. Cade Pilkinton had a huge homer in game two and all in all we are pleased with these victories."
The Wildcats are 8-6 on the season while the Oaks are 9-7.
The teams play a nine-inning single game on Sunday beginning at noon.
