Wild Day Sees Cats Split DH in Finales at Faulkner
MONTGOMERY, AL – After losing the first game of their Saturday doubleheader at Faulkner and running their losing streak to three, the Wildcats snapped back to take game four of the series against Eagles. The Cats dropped game one 6-5 but took game two of the day 9-8.
Bethel finished the day 4-4. Faulkner is 7-1.
In game one, the Cats took a 1-0 lead in the first when Jared Hall scored on a wild pitch. Faulkner scored three in the bottom of the first and a single run in the second.
The Eagles led 5-1 after five innings. Bethel scored four in the top of the sixth to tie the game. C J Thomas hit a three-run homer. Hall followed with a dinger to right to tie the game.
Faulkner scored what proved to be the game winner in the bottom of the sixth and won 6-5. Both squads had eight hits. Bishop Woods suffered the loss for the Wildcats.
Game two saw the Cats take a 1-0 lead in the first when Ivan Vega homered. Faulkner scored three runs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-1 margin.
Bethel's Jack Beck and Thomas drove in single runs in the third to tie the game.
After an RBI by Luis Aristud, Hall socked a two-run homer to give the Wildcats a 6-3 lead in the fourth inning.
Thomas hit a solo shot in the fifth to extend Bethel's lead to 7-3.
Faulkner came right back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut Bethel's lead to 7-5. Faulkner tied the game with a two run seventh.
Thomas continued his stellar day driving in two runs in the eighth to give the Wildcats a 9-7 advantage.
Faulkner cut the Wildcat lead to 9-8 with a run in the bottom of the eighth but Bethel held on to take the victory.
Bethel outhit the home team 11-8.
Adriel Vega picked up the victory in relief for the Wildcats.
The Bat Cats will host Olivet Nazarene in a three-game set beginning with a single game Friday and a doubleheader set for Saturday. It is the Annual Civil War series between the two programs.
