Bat Cats Beat Campbellsville in MSC Quarterfinals

FRIDAY GAME MOVED BACK TO NOON

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. The No. 4 seeded Bethel Wildcats and the No. 5 seeded Campbellsville Tigers opened play in the Mid-South Conference Quarterfinals at the Bowling Green Ballpark in Bowling Green, Kentucky Thursday morning.

The Cats jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Jacob Foster and Luis Aristud drove in runs in the first. Three Wildcats were hit by pitches in the inning.

The Cats added three runs in the second to take a 5-0 lead. Ivan Vega, Jose Olmeda and J T Morgan had RBI's in the inning.

The Tigers cut into Bethel's lead with a single run in the third and two runs in the fourth.

Ivan Vega slugged his first homer of the season in the fourth to get one of those runs back. His long ball was followed by a Morgan RBI and Bethel led 7-3 after four innings.

The Tigers pulled to within 7-4 with a run in the sixth.

Bethel put the game away with a two run seventh. Kendrick Osborne drove in Paden New who had doubled earlier in the inning. Olmeda drew a bases loaded walk to cap off the scoring.

Bethel had 13 hits in the game. Both teams stranded 10 runners each. Alexis Rodriguez picked up the win while Ryan White was credited with a save. The two hurlers held Campbellsville to just two hits. Alexander Salazar was charged with the loss.

Bethel moved to 18-22 while the Tigers dropped to 23-23.

The Wildcats will face rival Freed-Hardeman, the No. 1 seed at noon Friday.  The Lions are No. 20 in the nation. The teams met in late March in McKenzie with FHU winning all three games in the series.
