Jose Olmeda Goes Deep but Cats Fall at MBU

Wildcat Baseball Closes out Regular Season with Loss at Missouri Baptist

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Bethel Baseball Cats close out their regular season Tuesday with a 5-3 loss in St. Louis at Missouri Baptist.

The Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the first. The Wildcats took a 3-1 margin in the top of the second on a three-run home run by Jose Olmeda. Brandon Armour and Luis Aristud scored on the drive over the left center fence. Missouri Baptist tied the game with two runs in the third and then won with two runs in the seventh.

Bethel outhit the Spartans 7-4. Aristud led the Cats with two hits. The Wildcats stranded six runners in the game. Jackson Keller picked up the MBU win while Ryan White suffered the Bethel loss. The Cats used six pitchers in the game.

Bethel dropped to 15-21 while MBU improved to 20-20. The game marked the first time the teams had met since 2016.

The Wildcats will host Lindsey Wilson Thursday and Friday in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Championships.

Coach Rusty Thompson announced Tuesday the dates have been moved up a day due to the pending weekend weather forecast.

The tournament begins with a best of three series on campus sites with six teams advancing to Bowling Green Ballpark for the remainder of the championship.

The squads will play a single game Thursday at 6 p.m. Game two of the series will be Friday at noon. Game three, if necessary, will follow game two.
