Freed-Hardeman Sweeps Wildcats
MCKENZIE, Tenn. –After losing 7-2 Friday to Freed-Hardeman, the Bethel Wildcats dropped a twin bill to the visiting Lions Saturday in McKenzie. Bethel lost game one in extra innings falling 4-3 in eight. The Lions took game two 14-1.
With the series sweep the No. 20 Lions improved to 23-8 overall and 11-4 in the MSC. Bethel fell to 8-13 and 6-8.
Game one saw the Cats take a 2-0 lead in the third. Jose Olmeda got the Cats on the board with an RBI single. Wyatt McKee followed with a sacrifice fly RBI.
Freed bounced back with a fourth inning run on a Will McCall RBI double.
The Lions took a 3-2 lead in the sixth on a two-run homer by Sean Rooney.
Luis Aristud scored on a passed ball in the seventh to tie the game.
Freed's J. P. Key homered in the top of the eighth to give the Lions what proved to be winning run.
Bethel outhit FHU 10-6. Aristud, Ivan Vega and J.T. Morgan led the Cat attack with two hits each.
Tyler Duskin picked up the Freed win. Brandon Armour was charged with the Wildcat loss. Bethel's Alexis Rodriguez pitched seven strong innings allowing just three runs.
The Lions took charge early in game two scoring five runs in the first. They added two runs in the fourth to lead 7-0. Freed blew the game open with a three run sixth. The Lions added four more runs in the seventh. Bethel's only run came in the fifth when Kyle Lambert scored on a double play ball.
The Lions outhit Bethel 13-6. McKee and Ivan Vega led the Cats with two hits each.
John Boren suffered the loss. Colton Huntt was the winner for FHU.
Bethel committed six errors in the game.
The Wildcats hit the road to Indiana Tuesday. They meet Oakland City in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
