Bat Cats Fall to Patriots in Series Opener

MCKENZIE, Tenn. -After not playing for over a week, the Bethel Wildcats returned to the diamond Saturday hosting the University of the Cumberlands in the first of a three-game series.

The No. 17 Patriots captured game one winning 6-1.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Jose Olmeda tripled and drove in Luis Aristud for what would be Bethel's lone run.

The Patriots scored three runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and added another run in the ninth.

The Pats outhit Bethel 10-4. UC had four doubles in the game. Sean Cheely had a game tying home run in the sixth.

Marco Santa suffered the Wildcat loss. Braxton Cottongame was the winner for the Patriots.

Bethel dropped to 7-9 overall and 5-4 in the league. Cumberlands improved 17-9 and 5-5.

The squads meet again Sunday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
