Bat Cats Lose Heartbreaker at Blue Mountain
BLUE MOUNTAIN, MS – The Bethel Wildcats took a three-game win streak to Blue Mountain, Mississippi Tuesday as the Cats battled the Toppers of Blue Mountain. It appeared the Cats had a good chance to make it four in a row after the they jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings.
Jacob Foster continued his hot streak with an RBI single in the first. Later in the inning, Noah Miller drove in two runs with a two-run single. Foster doubled in the second driving in another run.
BMC scored a single run in the fourth and added two more runs in the fifth to cut Bethel's advantage to 4-3.
Jose Olmeda and Luis Aristud scored unearned runs in the sixth to give Bethel a 6-3 margin.
The Toppers rallied however and scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 7-6.
Bethel dropped to 6-7 on the year. BMC improved to 11-7. The single game was the fourth of seven straight road games for the Wildcats. The Toppers outhit the Cats 13-10. Alexis Rodriguez suffered the loss for Bethel.
Coach Rusty Thompson commented on the tough loss. "We played hard and did some things well. We were able to play a few guys who we wanted to see compete on the field. John Boren was one of those guys we wanted to get out there on the mound and he threw well. We were excited to see it and he deserved a win with his performance." Thompson added, "It was a tough way to lose a game, but we look forward to getting back on the field and just keep getting better and learning to overcome adversity. That's just part of the process to get to where we think we should be as we continue to move forward."
The Wildcats return to conference play Friday and Saturday at Campbellsville. The teams meet for a single game Friday at 1 p.m. CST and then square off for a doubleheader Saturday starting at 12:30 p.m. CST
