MCKENZIE, Tenn. - The (RV) Bethel Lady Wildcats could not overcome 17 turnovers against No. 9 Georgetown Saturday afternoon, falling to the visiting Tigers 67-56. GC had a 21-10 advantage in points off turnovers.
Georgetown moved to 18-3 and 3-2 in the MSC. Bethel dropped to 13-8 and 0-5 in the league.
The Lady Cats trailed 16-8 after one and 33-24 at the half.
Georgetown extended their lead to as many as 17 points midway of the third quarter but behind the three-points shooting of freshman Lauren Bryant the Cats pulled to within nine several times. Bryant hit three of her four made treys in the third. Despite the Bethel charge, GC still led 55-42 after three quarters.
The Lady Cats outscored the Tigers 14-12 in the fourth quarter but fell by eleven.
Bethel shot 38 percent in the game. GC shot 35 percent from the floor. The Tigers had a 34-27 margin in rebounding. The Cats were 13-of-22 from the free throw line while the Tigers were 13-of-15 from the line.
Alyia Lee led Bethel with 15 points and six rebounds. Bryant was in double figures with 12 points.
A J Steveson led GC with 21 points. Erin Toller had 19 tallies.
Coach Chris Nelson commented, "We are disappointed with the loss no doubt, but we will keep fighting and working hard. We played hard today but give Georgetown credit as they made big plays when they had to. Our turnovers hurt us, and they took advantage. We are still learning how to play without Cal (Howard). We look forward to the upcoming week and still feel good about turning this around."
