LEBANON, Tenn. – After splitting their doubleheader Friday the Bethel Lady Wildcats and the Cumberland Phoenix returned to the diamond for another twin bill Friday in Lebanon.
The Phoenix scored four runs in the second and it proved to enough as they took game one 8-3. Bethel scored three runs in the fifth to pull within one at 4-3. Maddie Cochran, Bailey Bandy and Leah Hayes each drove in runs to account for the scoring. CU added late runs to put the game away. Bethel outhit Cumberland 9-7. Both teams struggled in the field combining for seven errors. Cochran suffered the loss while Mariah Clark picked up the CU win.
After trailing 4-0 in game two, the Lady Cats scored a single run on a Gillian Grahn RBI single in the third. Bethel struck for six runs in the fourth. Madison White had a two-run double. Kayla Gillespie followed with a RBI double. Cochran drove in a runner which was followed by a Melanie Alexander RBI single. Anna Johnson capped off the inning driving in another run. Grahn drove in another runner in the top of the seventh. Bethel scored runs on a passed ball and CU error and won 10-4. Billie Douglas was the winner while Bela Soto was charged with the Phoenix loss.
The two programs have played 32 times with the series tied at 16-16.
Bethel completed their regular season at 24-14 overall and 18-14 in the MSC. The Phoenix completed the day at 13-21 and 9-17.
The Mid-South Conference postseason tournament starts next Friday with the Lady Wildcats hosting a three-game series Friday and Saturday. The opponent and times will be announced over the weekend.
