MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcat women's tennis squad opened Mid-South Conference play Wednesday afternoon at the Bethel Tennis Complex and they did it in style. It was also the home opener for the Lady Cats.
The windy conditions did not deter the Wildcats as they defeated UPIKE 5-0. Bethel grabbed the first point of the day winning all three doubles matches. Luana Wild and Sophia Vasconcellos made a late match adjustment and pulled out a 6-4 win in doubles. Anabella Baralt and Lexi Daniels played a solid match and won 6-1. SamanthaJo Stone and Kelsie Seibers played a nice match and won 6-1.
Coach Derrick Hubble stated, "Going into singles after securing the doubles point is huge meaning you only need three wins to win the match. Daniels finished her match first winning 6-2 and 6-0. It was huge for her as it was her first match since last March. Vasconcellos played her best game today to bring home the win, 6-2 and 6-2. Baralt played very solid, winning 6-3 and 6-3. Wild finished the match off by winning 6-4 and 6-3. She played really well from start to finish."
Coach Hubble added, "I'm very pleased with the young ladies' effort today; they played very hard. Starting out 1-0 in the MSC is a great start in what should be one of the top tennis conferences in the nation. The attitudes were great coming into this conference match. They were focused and determined and those factors paid off. I'm pumped about this young group. We have to continue to grow and build a team that is one of the best. I was very pleased with the fan support and proud that the men's team also showed up to support their teammates."
