MCKENZIE, Tenn. – After having several games postponed the Bethel University Lady Wildcats returned to the court Thursday night playing host to MSC foe and rival Martin Methodist.
The visitors from Pulaski jumped out to a 16-7 lead after the first quarter. MMC would lead by as many as 18 in the second quarter and led at halftime 37-26.
The Lady Cats staged a second half comeback and trailed 67-61 with under four minutes left in the game but would get no closer. In the end, the RedHawks snapped a six game losing streak with a 72-61 victory.
Bethel dropped to 10-11 overall and 5-9 in the MSC. Martin Methodist moved to 4-10 and 3-10.
Bethel's 19 turnovers led the Hawks to a 22-4 margin in points off turnovers. MMC hit 11 three-pointers and shot 45 percent from the floor. Faith Sherrow hit seven three's and had a game and season high 31 points.
Bethel hit seven three's but shot just 36 percent from the field.
Bethel's Millie Bryant had a big night with 24 points. Mickey Head had her sixth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Head finished the night with 998 career points.
Coach Chris Nelson said, "We made too many mistakes in the first half and that led to us playing catch-up the remainder of the night. I thought Mickey and Millie both played well and really hard all night. Give credit to Martin Methodist as they also played hard and are much better than their record indicates. We need to regroup and get ready for our road trip to Life Saturday and Lindsey Wilson at home on Monday."
The Lady Cats travel to Life University Saturday for a 12:30 CST tip-off.
