BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats saw their season come to a close Saturday night in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Championships being held in Bowling Green. Number two seeded Campbellsville ran their record to 17-1 with a 76-44 win. The Tigers are ranked third in the nation and Ginger High Colvin's team looked every bit of a top-ranked team.
Bethel finished 12-13 on the year.
Campbellsville came out hot taking an 18-3 lead in the first quarter. They led 18-7 at the end of one. The Tigers led 42-21 at the half. Campbellsville scored the first eight points of the third quarter and took control of the contest.
The Tigers shot 41 percent from the floor and knocked down 13 three-pointers. They outrebounded Bethel 45-36. Campbellsville forced Bethel into 21 turnovers and had a 26-12 margin in points off turnovers. The Tiger bench outscored the Wildcat bench 35-10. Three CU players scored in double figures with Savannah Gregory leading the Tigers with 17 points. She also grabbed eight rebounds.
Bethel shot 28 percent from field and hit eight three's. Millie Bryant led the Cats with 16 points. Madison Henegar had a team high eight rebounds and scored seven points.
Coach Chris Nelson talked about the game and season. "Give Campbellsville a lot of credit. They are at the top of their game right now and have a really good chance to win it all. They are so well coached. They pass and shoot the ball with a lot of confidence." Nelson added, "We had a tough season and one that we are not accustomed to. Our kids battled and we stayed the course on our goals and ambitions and I am proud of that. We have most of squad coming back and we are excited about next season. Along with those returning and newcomers we will go after gives us a great opportunity to get back to our standard of excellence. We want to thank our administration and fans for their great support. I am also excited about our young coaching staff and look forward to working with them during the off season and next fall."
