Lady Cats Sweep Thomas More in MSC Home Games

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats pounded out 25 hits in their sweep of Thomas More Friday afternoon in McKenzie. The Lady Cats won in dramatic fashion in game one beating the Saints 11-10 in eight innings. Bethel took game two by a score of 6-1. Bethel ran their record to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in MSC action. TMC fell to 1-3 and 0-2.

Game one proved to be a wild affair as Bethel came back twice from big deficits to win. Thomas More scored six runs in top of the first. Kayla Gillespie has a RBI double in the bottom of the second to put Bethel on the board. The Cats scored five in the bottom of the third with the big blow being a Grand Slam by Alexis Wheeler. Thomas More scored four in the sixth to grab a 10-6 lead. Gillespie went deep again with a solo shot in the sixth to cut the deficit to 10-7. Gillespie wasn't finished as she slugged a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game. Macey Cox had the game winner with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. Bethel outhit the Saints 12-11 in the game. Each team stranded six runners. Kaylee McKinley was the winner while TMC's Annika Gels suffered the Saint loss.

The second game saw the Lady Wildcats outhit the Saints 13-6. Bethel scored single runs in the third and fourth. They put the game away with a four run sixth. Gillespie had three hits and finished the day with six total hits, five RBI's and four runs scored. Cox drove in two runs in game two. Melanie Alexander and Anna Johnson each drove in single runs. Maddie Cochran went the distance allowing only six hits. Hannah Bishop suffered the TMC loss.

Coach John Weeks stated, "We were really resilient today. I am really proud of our role players stepping up today and buying into a team effort attitude. Everyone is contributing to our team goals and I am pleased and proud of that. These wins reflect that."

The Lady Cats and the Saints meet again Saturday in a twin bill beginning at noon.
