Lady Wildcats Go 5-1 in Gulf Shores Softball Invitational

GULF SHORES, Ala. – After pulling off upsets Friday over No. 23 UHV and No. 20 Morningside the Bethel Lady Wildcats continued their hot play winning three of four games over the weekend and completing their play in the Gulf Shores Invitational at 5-1 in the event.

The Lady Cats beat Culver Stockton 6-0 Saturday morning. Bethel scored one run in the first, four runs in the fifth and a single run in the sixth. Alexis Wheeler drove in two run while Lexee Miller and Kayla Gillespie drove in single runs. Madison White had the other RBI. Billie Douglas fired a three-hitter to pick up the win.

Saturday afternoon the Lady Wildcats suffered only their second loss of the season falling 6-2 to No. 6 Columbia College. Macey Cox had three hits while Miller had one RBI in the game. Maddie Cochran was charged with the loss.

Game two Saturday afternoon found the Cats coming from behind to beat Keiser 7-6. Bethel scored four runs in the seventh to win. Gillian Grahn drove in what proved to be the game winner with an RBI double in the inning. Kennedy Gillespie, Cox, Gillespie and Leah Hayes drove in single runs. Darcie Gibson picked up the victory.

Bethel concluded play Sunday morning with a 5-4 win over Ave Maria. Cox drove in two runs. Kayla Gillespie and Madison White had one RBI each. Douglas was the winning hurler.

With the 5-1 road trip the Wildcats improved to 12-2 on the year.

Bethel returns to action at home Tuesday hosting Freed-Hardeman in a doubleheader at 5 p.m.
