MOBILE, Ala. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats won their 16th in a row with 69-59 win at Mobile Saturday. The victory matches the win streak of last year which is the second best ever in program history. Bethel won 24 in a row in the 2014-15 season when they finished 32-4 and reached the Elite Eight of the national tournament.
Trailing 35-34 at the half, the Wildcats outscored the Rams 19-9 in the third quarter and went on to win by ten. Five Lady Cats finished in double digits. Mickey Head had 13 points and had four rebounds. Ty Willis had 12 points and eight boards. Ge Robinson and Morgan Martin each had 11 points. Martin connected on three three-pointers. Millie Bryant had a huge day with ten points and ten rebounds. Tasia Jones was solid with seven points and six assists. Jones sent the Cats to the locker room at halftime with momentum after hitting a half-court shot at the buzzer.
Bethel had a 41-29 advantage in rebounding. Bethel was 8-of-10 from the foul line while Mobile went to the stripe 26 times connecting on 23 of their attempts. Bethel held Mobile to just 30 percent from the field however. Bethel is 3rd in the nation in field goal defense at 33.1 percent.
Bethel improved to 24-4 overall and 13-1 in the SSAC. Mobile fell to 15-10 and 7-8. The Cats have a 12-5 advantage in the series and moved to 3-3 all-time in Mobile. Bethel beat Mobile 85-59 earlier this season in McKenzie.
Coach Chris Nelson said, "We are very proud of our team today. Mobile is a dangerous team and really played inspired today. I thought our players stayed the course and never got rattled when the game was tight. This has been a good road trip for us and we look forward to getting home."
The Lady Wildcats close out their regular season with homes games next week at Crisp Arena. They host Loyola Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. and William Carey Saturday at noon.
