MONTGOMERY, Ala. –The No. 8 Bethel Lady Wildcats extended their winning streak to 11 in a row with a blowout 75-49 victory at Faulkner Thursday night in Montgomery. Bethel moved to 19-4 overall and 8-1 in the SSAC. Faulkner dropped to 14-9 and 4-5. Bethel leads the series 10-1.
The Lady Wildcats raced out to a 20-6 lead after one and led 42-13 at the half. Four players scored eight or more points in the first 20 minutes. Bethel hit eight first half three-pointers and had a 28-12 advantage in rebounding. The Lady Eagles shot 15 percent in the half hitting just 4-of-26 shots. The Lady Cats continued their domination and led 60-30 after three quarters.
Jani Crawford led Bethel with 13 points. Mickey Head had 11 points. Tyasia Willis had 10 points and eight rebounds. Tasia Jones ran the show with 10 points, four rebounds and seven assists. Morgan Martin followed with eight points. Martin nailed two three's giving her 235 career three-pointers. She is six from tying former Bethel great Katie Van Dyke, the program all-time leader who had 241. Martin has 1, 272 career points which is 9th all-time in program history. Ashton Hulme tossed in nine points while Ge' Nashia Robinson contributed with seven points.
The Lady Cats finished with 13 three's and had a 33-6 margin in bench points. Bethel had a 30-10 advantage in points in the paint. Faulkner shot just 19 percent hitting just 11-of-56 shots.
Bethel entered the game 4th in the nation in scoring defense at 54.4 and 6th in field goal defense at 33 percent.
Coach Chris Nelson said, "It's always great to get a conference road win. We were locked in tonight from the start and was ready to play. I think that shows the maturity and experience of this group. We were able to get scoring from our bench tonight and also limit our minutes which is key on this road swing."
The Cats continue their road trip traveling to Middle Georgia State Saturday with tip-off at noon from Cochran.
