MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats won their eighth straight with a 76-50 victory over visiting Brewton-Parker College Saturday afternoon in Crisp Arena. The No. 9 Lady Cats moved to 16-4 overall and 5 -1 in the SSAC. It was the second of a four game home stand for Bethel. The Cats are 10 -0 at home on the year and 117 -15 all-time in the building. They are 55-4 versus SSAC opponents in the building and 99-18 all-time against league foes in Crisp.
Brewton-Parker dropped to 7-9 overall and 1-5. They are 2-7 in road action. Bethel has an 11-0 advantage in the series and is 6-0 versus the Barons in McKenzie.
Bethel jumped out to an early lead and led 18-4 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Cats would go on to shoot 51 percent in the first half and lead 43-14 at the break. Bethel would eventually cruise to the 26-point win.
Bethel forced the Barons into 21 turnovers and had a 23-2 margin in points off turnovers. They held BPC to just 27 percent from the floor. The Cats had 18 assists in the game. That gives them 316 on the season which ranks them 6th in the nation.
Eleven different Lady Wildcats scored in the contest. Ge' Nasisha Robinson led Bethel with 15 points. Tasia Jones who scored eight first quarter points finished with 14 points. She had four assists giving her 203 in her career. She became just the 16th person in Bethel history to have 200 or more assists. Ty Willis had eight points and eight rebounds. She had five blocks giving her 41 on then season. She entered the game sixth in the nation in blocks. Morgan Martin hit two three-pointers giving her 229 in her career. Martin finished with eight points. She trails only Katie Van Dyke who had 241 for the all-time program lead. Mickey Head had a game high five assists.
Coach Chris Nelson said his team had fun. "Our ladies were fun to watch today. They are really sharing the basketball well and have been consistent on the defensive end thus far. Ge was terrific off the bench and did a great job adjusting when they went from man to zone. Mickey and Ty did a good job of protecting the paint and Tasia kept us in a flow offensively all day. This time of the year the season goes by fast so we have to take it one day at a time and stay focused."
Bethel returns to action Monday in the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Game. They host Florida College at 5:30 p.m. The Countdown to Tip-off Show begins at 5 p.m. on WEIO, 100.9 and, www.thefarmradio.com.
