BLUE MOUNTAIN, MS – Two softball teams going in opposite directions met in Blue Mountain, Mississippi Tuesday. The Bethel Lady Wildcats entered play against Blue Mountain riding a season high five game winning streak. The Toppers entered the fray with a season long six game losing streak. The squads split a doubleheader in McKenzie in March.
That was the same result Tuesday.
BMC won game one 9-1 in five innings. The Toppers scored a single run in the first. They added two runs in the fourth and run ruled the Lady Cats scoring six runs in the fifth. Bethel's only run was the result of a Maddie Cochran RBI double driving in Lexee Miller in the fifth. Blue Mountain outhit Bethel 10-3 in the game. Jezabelle Quintana was charged with the loss while Paige Taylor recorded the win for BMC.
Game two saw the Lady Wildcats prevail 7-4 in ten innings. Bethel jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a Quintana two run homer. She followed with a solo shot in the fourth. Quintana leads the SSAC with 11 homers on the season. BMC fought back to tie the game at 3-3 with three runs in the fifth. The Lady Cats scored four runs in the tenth to win. Makenzie Caldwell and Melanie Alexander both had RBI singles in the inning. Iesha Kizer doubled in a run while Quintana drove in her fourth run of the game with an RBI single. The reigning SSAC Player of the Week has driven in 37 runs on the season which leads the SSAC. BMC scored a single run in the bottom of the tenth but Bethel was able to hold on for the three run victory. Billie Douglas picked up her 11th victory of the season. Taylor was the losing hurler for BMC.
Bethel finished the day at 21-14 and 13-7 in the SSAC. BMC is 17-23 and 9-9.
Bethel returns home Friday and Saturday hosting No. 7 Mobile in a pair of doubleheaders. Action begins Friday at 3 p.m. with play starting Saturday at 1 p.m.
