MT. VERNON, Ga. – The No. 17 Bethel Lady Wildcats moved to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in the SSAC with another conference road win Saturday winning 78-65 at Brewton-Parker. The hard fought victory follows their 88-60 win at Florida College on Thursday. BPU suffered their first conference and fell to 9-5 and 5-1 in league action.
It was the ninth meeting between the two programs with Bethel leading the series 9- 0. The Lady Cats are 4-0 in McKenzie and 5-0 in Mt. Vernon.
Bethel led 60-58 midway of the fourth quarter and used an 18-7 run to finish the game and capture the double digit win.
Bethel shot 43 percent hitting 29-of-60 attempts from the floor. They had a commanding 41-24 advantage in rebounding. BPU shot 33 percent from the field connecting on 22-of-65 shots. Both squads hit nine three-pointers.
Myah Taylor led all scorers with 27 points. Morgan Martin had a double-double scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She also dished out six assists. Brandi Goodman added 12 points. Millie Bryant also had six assists.
Alexia Galloway led the Barons with 17 points.
Coach Chris Nelson was proud of his team. "We are proud of our efforts again as this was another nice road win. Our team has really started to mess since the break and you can see that with the way we are sharing the ball and collecting assists. We still need to clean some things up on defense, especially when we are tiring at times. I thought we executed well down the stretch." He added, "Morgan was great all day on both sides of the ball and Myah made some huge plays in the second half when the game was tight. Brandi gave us that presence in the post when they started to tighten up on our guards."
The Lady Cats return home for two straight conference games. They host rival Loyola Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. in Crisp Arena. They host William Carey Saturday at 2 p.m.
