BLUE MOUNTAIN, MS – The No.16 Bethel Lady Wildcats closed out their three game road trip at Blue Mountain Monday night on Martin Luther King Jr. Day with an 80-62 win over the Toppers. The Lady Cats moved to 17-3 overall and 9-1 in the SSAC. Blue Mountain dropped to 1-15 and 0-10.
It was the 26th meeting between the two programs with Bethel now leading the series 25-1. The Cats have won 12 in a row in the series. They are 12-1 in Blue Mountain with the lone loss back in February of 2013.
The Lady Cats are 8-1 at home and 8- 1 on the road. They are 1-1 in neutral site games. Bethel is 100-14 all-time in Crisp Arena. They are 44-3 against SSAC foes in the arena. Bethel is 77-15 all-time versus SSAC opponents.
Bethel shot 36 percent from the field hitting 24-of-65 shots. A huge key was Bethel's ability to get to the free throw line and then hit their attempts there. The Cats hit 26-of-30 from the charity line. Bethel also had a 52-34 advantage in rebounding. The Cats had a 16-5 margin in second chance points.
Bethel was led by Myah Taylor who had 29 points. Taylor was named SSAC Player of the Week earlier in the day. It was the third time this year she has been won that award. Taylor has scored 101 points in Bethel's last three games. Morgan Martin had 11 points and a game high seven rebounds. Brandi Goodman and Millie Bryant scored eight points each. Tyasia Willis came off the bench with 10 points and five rebounds. Jada Taylor led BMC with 12 points.
Bethel knocked down nine three's in the game. The Lady Wildcats have hit at least one three-pointer in 412 straight games. The team has hit at least one three-pointer in every game Coach Chris Nelson has coached at Bethel. Bethel has hit a nation leading 189 three-pointers on the season.
The Lady Wildcats return home Thursday to host Faulkner at 5:30 p.m. It will be the first of five straight home games for the Cats. It will be Youth Night at Crisp Arena with several events planned involving Basic Sports and Upward Youth teams.
