MCKENZIE, Tenn. – Senior Day ceremonies took place before Friday's games as Bethel saluted five seniors before their doubleheader with Brewton-Parker. Seniors Emmi Thurmond, Ciara Aragon, Dominque Todd, Keely Jordan and Casey Wade were saluted and honored by Coach John Weeks and fans.
Unfortunately for the Lady Cats they dropped two nail-biters to the Barons. The Barons won 3-2 in eight innings in game one. They edged Bethel 11-10 in game two. Bethel fell to 13-29 overall and 7-15 in the SSAC. Brewton-Parker moved to 7-32 and 5-15.
In game one the Barons scored two run in the first and that lead stood until the Lady Cats tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. Madisen Adkins scored on a passed ball and then Keely Jordan drove in the tying run to send the game to extra innings. Two hits and a Bethel error enabled the Barons to score the winning run in the eighth. Both teams finished with seven hits each. Kaylee Sapp was the winner while Casey Wade was the hard luck loser for Bethel.
Game two was a wild affair. The Barons took the lead at 1-0 in the first. Bethel scored four in the bottom of the inning. Wade had an RBI double. Emmi Thurmond drove in two with a double. Lexee Miller also had an RBI to give Bethel a 4-1 lead. BPC answered with four runs on their own in the second to grab a 5-4 advantage. The Cats came right back as Ciara Aragon drove in a run with a RBI single. Iesha Kizer followed with a RBI double and Bethel regained the lead at 6-5. BPC scored two in the third and three in the fourth to lead 11-6. The Wildcats scored four in the sixth with the big blow being a Kizer two-run homer to pull Bethel to within 11-10. The Barons however would hold on for the win. BPC outhit Bethel 16-11. Billie Douglas suffered the loss while Morgan Page picked up the Baron win. Sapp was credited with the save.
Bethel plays host to SSAC foe Blue Mountain Tuesday at 2 p.m.
