Softball Splits Doubleheader with Missouri Baptist

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats earned a split of their doubleheader Saturday winning game two over Missouri Baptist 4-1. The Lady Cats had dropped game one 2-1.

Bethel's Casey Wade pitched well but the Lady Cats struggled at the plate managing only two hits in the low scoring affair. Wade and Lexee Miller had the only hits for Bethel. Miller had a leadoff double in the fourth, advanced to third on an Iesha Kizer fly ball to right and scored on a Wade sacrifice fly. Wade allowed only three hits and struck out six Spartans but was charged with the hard luck loss.

In game two Billie Douglas picked up the win allowing MBU just six hits. She struck out four. Maddie Cochran came in relief in the fifth with runners at second and third and pitched her way out of the jam. A line drive caught by Dominque Todd and a great play in the hole by Ciara Aragon for the final putout allowed Bethel to escape the inning. Cochran retired all eight batters she faced in the game.

Madisen Adkins scored Bethel's first run after reaching first on an error, advancing to second on the walk of Kizer and scoring on the single by Wade. Aragon had a good game in game two, going 3-3 on bases and 2-2 at the plate, scoring once. Aragon and Cochran each doubled, Morgan Hunt and Wade also had singles.

Bethel is 2-8 on the season while MBU is 2-4.

Bethel plays host to Lawrence Tech University Monday with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Wildcat Field. After Monday's games, Bethel plays eight straight road games.
